The Royal Ark Mariner degree is quite separate in its content from Mark Masonry, but is under the management of the Mark Grand Lodge. A Royal Ark Mariner Lodge is "moored" to a Mark Lodge and will bear the same name and number.

Guernsey formed the earliest Channel Islands Royal Ark Mariner Lodge - the Sarnia Lodge of RAM No 425 in 1897 just six years after the Sarnian Mark Lodge.

Further development of the Royal Ark Mariner degree in the Channel Islands did not occur until the 1980s.
