Freemasons in Jersey raise substantial amounts for charity every year. Some of this is allocated to benevolence, to assist members and their families in the event of hardship.
Each Lodge has an almoner, whose responsibility is to keep in touch with members of the lodge who have fallen on
hard times, or are ill or injured. They will also offer substantial assistance to the widows of former members.
Each lodge has a benevolent fund from which amounts can be made available to assist with capital sums in the event of disability, or subsistence where hardship has occurred.
The Lodge almoner also provides a close link with the Lodge, ensuring that contacts are retained, and that members will visit the member or the widow as required.

Where more substantial assistance is required, the Province of Jersey has a benevolence committee, comprising all the
Lodge almoners, and the Provincial Executive. This committee has the facility to advance grants up to £1,000.
There are occasions where even greater help is needed, and here the Freemasons' Grand Charity can offer assistance. The Masonic Samaritan Fund exists to fund the provision of medical care and support for identified medical need where there is a long wait for NHS treatment and the applicant cannot afford private treatment.

FREEMASONRY CARES
There are four Masonic Charities which operate from the headquarters of United Grand Lodge of England at Great Queen Street: The Freemasons' Grand Charity; The Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys; Royal Masonic Benevolent Intitution and the Masonic Samaritan Fund. Jointly they have set up an on-going initiative to inform Brethren and their families of the charities and what they can do to assist in time of need. A leaflet has been issued to every Freemason in the Province.
