The Royal Sussex Lodge was named after the Duke of Sussex, a former Grand Master. It was consecrated in 1843, most of its founders coming from the Mechanical Lodge (Duke of Normandy).
In 1922 in order to ease the overcrowding in the Lodge (over 200 members) a daughter Lodge - Lodge St.Helier was consecrated.
